INTRODUCTION

In general viscometer is an instrument used to measure the viscosity of a fluid. For liquids with viscosities which vary with flow conditions, an instrument called a rheometer is used. Viscometers only measure under one flow condition. Either the fluid remains stationary and an object moves through it, or the object is stationary and the fluid moves past it. The drag caused by relative motion of the fluid and a surface is a measure of the viscosity. In process environments, ensuring proper viscosity is a key success factor. we need an accurate, reliable, and durable viscometer capable of monitoring fluid resistance without requiring a lot of operator involvement or maintenance.

 “The core concept of this project is that the viscosity of oil inside the engine is been measured with the help of the viscometer and the condition of the oil is also been made easy to known to all weather the oil inside the engine, is in a good condition to run the engine or not.”

EXISTING MODEL

 Achieving this requires an accurate, reliable, and durable in-line viscometer capable of monitoring fluid resistance without requiring a lot of operator involvement.   Cambridge’s VISCOpro 1600 viscometer is an ideal viscometer for this application because of its accuracy and reliability, and inherent ruggedness.  This digital viscometer features built-in optional LCD display with readout in centipoise, cSt, or SSU for monitoring of critical fluid conditions. Management system. The unit’s sensor and electronics are encased in an explosion-proof housing for durability and reliability. The optional explosion-proof display clearly shows viscosity and temperature readings for each line or tank.

Core Concept behind this Seminar Project

In this process Cambridge’s viscopro1600 is been used to measure the viscosity of the oil inside the engine. The viscometer’s sensor is been fixed at the bottom level of the engine. Then the optional display which shows the viscosity and the temperature of the oil is been connected to an embedded circuit and a loop system.

In this process the circuit and loop system is made in such a way that viscosity range of the oil which should be used in the engine is fixed as the minimum and the maximum range for the  circuit loop system.

For example

For two wheelers (motor bikes) the engine oil which should be used is the range  SAE 20-40.

In this case the range for the embedded circuit loop system the minimum level of viscosity of oil is fixed as 20 and the maximum level is fixed as 40.

CASE 1 – In this when the oil is made into the engine of the bike the viscosity of the oil ranges from SAE 20 at the starting stage and till the viscosity of the oil is at SAE 38, at the time with the help of the circuit loop system a led bulb of green colour is made to glow in the display of the odometer which shows that the oil inside the engine is in good condition.

CASE 2 – In this when the oil reaches a viscosity SAE range of 38-40, at the time with the help of the circuit loop system a led bulb of red colour is made to blink in the display of the odometer which shows that the oil inside the engine is in the condition to change the oil.

CASE 3 -In this when the oil crosses an viscosity range of SAE 40 and above, The oil level is also decreased and the viscosity also becomes unfit for the engine at the time with the help of the circuit loop system a led bulb of red colour is made to glow continuously in the display of the odometer which shows that the oil inside the engine is contaminated and unfit for the engine to drive in a smooth way.

Advantages of suggested system

  • v  The viscosity of the oil is made easy to measure while it is been present inside the engine.
  • v  No need to calculate the odometer reading for the change of oil in the engine.
  • v  No need to calculate the month and days for the change of oil in the engine
  • v  No need to take the oil level indicator sticks to check the oil.
  • v No need that a mechanic or a service provider is required to check oils condition.

CONCLUSION

In  this  automated computerized , mechanical  life , even  though  developments  in automobile and production  technology  is  tremendous , still   there  the older ways to check the viscosity and the condition of the oil is still more not required.
